The Retreat Rhythm

A Day at the Nest

Everything is optional. Come to what you feel like and rest when you need to. Times shift a little with the teachers, so check today's classes below.

1

7:00 AM · Morning Meditation & Yoga

Thirty minutes of meditation, then 75 to 90 minutes of yoga on the open-air platform: vinyasa, somatic or Ashtanga, depending on the day (Ashtanga, on Mondays and Fridays, assumes you know the First Series). Coffee and cacao are already out.

2

8:00 AM · Breakfast

Served until 10:30, with coffee or tea, fresh juice and bone broth. The coffee is grown by the community and roasted here in San Marcos.

3

Late Morning · Two More Classes

A one-hour class around 9:45 and a 90-minute class at 11:30. Or skip them for the lake terrace, a massage (extra) or the walk down into the village.

4

1:00 PM · Lunch

Home-cooked and locally sourced, served until 3:00. Vegetarian and vegan at every meal.

5

Afternoon · More Classes, or Nothing at All

One or two classes most days, around 1:45 and 3:30. Acro on Fridays, yin on Sundays, a sound journey on Saturdays. Rest is just as respected as activity.

6

5:00 PM · Sauna & Cool Plunge

The wood-fired sauna runs 5:00 to 8:00 every evening, from 3:00 on Fridays. Heat, cold, repeat.

7

6:00 PM · Dinner, Then the Evening

Dinner until 8:00 (9:00 on Thursdays and Fridays), shared in the dining area and on the terrace. Most evenings there's something on: movie night on Mondays, art and games on Wednesdays, live acoustic music on Thursdays and Community Day on Fridays.

Getting Here

On the Hillside Above San Marcos La Laguna

Eagle's Nest sits on a steep, forested hillside above San Marcos La Laguna, a peaceful village on Lake Atitlan. The lake is at about 5,100 feet (1,560 m). The village is a walk down the hill, and a real climb back up.

By private transfer, San Marcos is about 3 to 4 hours from Guatemala City's airport (GUA), and we can arrange it for you. Aim to reach the lake before late afternoon, when the last boats run.

By Shuttle

There's no direct shared shuttle from Guatemala City. Shared tourist shuttles from Antigua take about 2.5 to 3.5 hours to Panajachel, a little longer by road to San Marcos. Or let us arrange private transport.

By Boat (Lancha)

From Panajachel, a public lancha crosses the lake to San Marcos in about 20 to 30 minutes.

The Last Stretch

From the San Marcos dock, take a tuk-tuk to our sign just before Shangri-La, or walk up through Barrio 2. The last part is on foot, up footpaths and steps: follow the hand-painted yellow arrows to our gate.

Questions

Yoga Retreat Questions Answered

Yes. Every class on the schedule, the sauna and cool plunge, three meals a day and the weekly community events, like Community Day on Fridays, are part of your stay. No resort fees, no expected tips. Optional extras: massages, airport transfers, boat tours, alcohol, the a la carte cafe menu and ticketed special events.
No. Every class is included with your stay, so there's nothing to buy. Most classes hold up to 30 people, so for popular ones it's worth saving a free spot on your guest schedule, using the booking code from your confirmation email. Not staying with us? Drop-in classes are best booked ahead.
It's the same retreat at every length: same yoga, meals and sauna. Three nights gives you two full days on the schedule. Five lets you settle into the rhythm. Eight covers a full week, so you'll catch Community Day on Friday, the sound journey on Saturday and yin on Sunday.
You're in the right place. Most classes are open to every level, and teachers show options from foundational to advanced, so beginners and experienced yogis practice side by side. The exception is Ashtanga: those classes assume you already know most of the First Series postures.
Yes. Our retreats are built for solo travelers and small groups, and meals are shared in the dining area and on the terrace, so it's easy to meet people (and fine to eat alone). The property is gated, with staff on site 24/7. San Marcos La Laguna is a peaceful village; take normal precautions at night, as anywhere.
Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and common allergies. Our kitchen started out vegetarian, and every meal still has vegetarian and vegan dishes, with meat on most days. Let us know when you book and we'll take care of you.
Mild and spring-like: Guatemala is the Land of Eternal Spring. Days are often 21–24°C (low to mid 70s °F). May to October is the rainy season, with sunny mornings and afternoon showers. Nights drop to 10–13°C (50–55°F) from November to February. The lake sits at about 5,100 feet (1,560 m), so drink plenty of water on day one.
Fly into Guatemala City (GUA), then connect through Antigua or take private transport straight to San Marcos (we can arrange it). From Antigua, a shared tourist shuttle runs to San Marcos, or to Panajachel for a 20 to 30 minute lancha. From the dock, take a tuk-tuk to our sign, then follow the yellow arrows up the footpath.
As many as you like. A typical day has 3–5 classes. Some guests do everything, others pick one or two.
Mention any injuries when you book, and tell your teacher before each class, since teachers rotate. They'll offer modifications. One honest note: Eagle's Nest sits on a steep hillside with stairs and uneven paths, so it isn't fully wheelchair accessible.
Comfortable clothes, a water bottle and any props you like to use. We provide mats, blocks, straps, bolsters and blankets.
